Statement by President Niinistö on the Meeting of the Presidents of the United States and Russia in Helsinki
President Niinistö: "The Presidents of Russia and the United States, Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump, have agreed to meet on Monday, 16 July, in Helsinki. Last week I received a joint preliminary inquiry from high-level officials of Russia and the United States, concerning the possibility to arrange such a meeting in Helsinki."

Small town of Lemi in Finland wins competition for the title of Capital of Metal
Lemi, a municipality with some 3000 inhabitants in rural Southeast Finland, came out as the winner in the month-long Capital of Metal competition for the world capital of heavy metal music. The Capital of Metal title is awarded to the city with the most metal bands per capita. After a tight contest with the Finnish city of Joensuu, Lemi finally won the title with a clear score.

Piece of Finnish History in the National History Day Contest
Emerson Meeks, Finnish-American High School student, competed in the National History Day (NHD) Contest representing Nevada. More than half a million students around the world conduct historical research on a topic of their choice in this national competition running since 1974. This year’s theme was “Conflict and Compromise in History.”
