Finland and Michigan collaborate on the advancement of clean technologies. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed by Michigan’s Governor Gretchen Whitmer and Minister of Economic Affairs of Finland Mika Lintilä on 4 March 2020.

Michigan, with its strong Finnish cultural heritage, is the heartland of the US automotive industry and investing heavily on future transportation solutions. The two regions share a partnership with a focus on climate leadership and keeping our economies competitive in the transition towards a cleaner economy. Both Finland and Michigan are forested regions with a shared interest on promoting modern forest bioeconomy and sustainable management of forest resources.

The partnership between Finland and Michigan focuses on the following sectors:

- Sustainable forest bioeconomy

- Intelligent transportation, including smart maritime

- Battery technology
