Finland and Maine have a partnership regarding the promotion of sustainable forest bioeconomy. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed by Maine’s Governor Janet Mills and Prime Minister of Finland Antti Rinne on 10 October 2019. The historic signing marked the first partnership of its kind for Finland in the U.S. at the state level.

The cooperation between Finland and Maine will help leverage the resources of both regions to strengthen their forest-based sectors and enhance forest health and sustainability in the face of climate change. Maine is a leading region within the U.S. in developing modern forest bioeconomy.
