UM.fi is a website maintained by the Ministry for Foreign Affairs that provides information on the Ministry’s activities and services. The website provides information in Finnish, Swedish, and English. The most comprehensive information is provided on the Finnish pages.

Finlanabroad.fi provides information about the activities of and services provided by Finnish missions abroad (an embassy, a consulate general, a consulate or other representation abroad). The mission and the Ministry for Foreign Affairs are responsible for the content of the website.

The aim is to ensure that the content is accurate and up to date. The mission and the Foreign Ministry are not responsible for any expenses or damage incurred by the user because of possible errors in the website content. Nor is the Ministry responsible for any harm caused by a technical failure or by any material linked to and published on the website by external parties.

A publishing system cookie that stores information on users’ language preferences and preserves it for their next visit to the website. Valid for one year.

JSESSIONID
A publishing system cookie used to track visitor movement from page to page and to indicate that the visitor is actively using the website. It also indicates the number of visitors on the website at any given time. Expires when the browsing session ends.

LFR_SESSION_STATE_*
A publishing system cookie that stores a timestamp for the user’s visit and gives a warning if the session is about to expire. Valid for one year.

User statistics

Visitor statistics are gathered to improve the service. Such data include, for example, the website from which the visitor has moved to the service; the most frequently used search words; the time of visit; visited pages; visitor’s geographical location; type of browser; and general information related to visitor’s device. In order to anonymise visitor statistics, the last two syllables are removed from the visitor’s IP address. Tracking statistics does not involve storing cookies on the visitor’s device. 

The data is not used for marketing purposes, and tracking data will not be disclosed outside the Government.

Visitor statistics are kept in servers located in Finland, and the data will not be combined with other sources of information. The data can be accessed by members of staff in the Ministry for Foreign Affairs whose tasks include web communications and by the Ministry's contracting partner Oikeat Oliot.

Newsletters and other subscription materials

You can subscribe on the Foreign Ministry’s website to an email newsletter on international sanctions(Link to another website.).

The newsletter service has been outsourced to Liana Technologies and the terms of use and other conditions of Liana Technologies are applied. The website includes a link to the order form. The subscriber's email address given on the order form is used for delivering the newsletter. 

Newsletter subscription information can be handled by members of the Foreign Ministry’s staff whose responsibilities include tasks related to newsletters.
