Study concludes: Economic relations between Finland and the United States must be deepened
Of countries outside Europe, the United States is Finland’s most important trade partner, and the country also has a key position in efforts to promote exports by Finnish companies. Central sectors in export promotion are information and communications technology, energy and environment technology, biotechnology and the chemicals industry, said Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Paavo Väyrynen.

Foreign Minister Stubb: Window of opportunity in Russian policy
On Wednesday evening, 4 March, Foreign Minister Alexander Stubb participated in a transatlantic dinner in Brussels, where he gave an introduction to foreign ministers of EU and NATO member states on the situation in Russia. According to Stubb, a window of opportunity has opened up for improving the relations between the West and Russia. Stubb had also a private discussion with US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, who largely agreed with Stubb’s situation analysis of Russia.

Foreign Minister Alexander Stubb met with Condoleezza Rice
Minister for Foreign Affairs of Finland, Alexander Stubb, met with Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice in Washington D.C. on Thursday, 17 July. The issues discussed included Iran, Georgia, Russia, the European Union and Finnish-American relations. Minister Stubb, on his first official visit to the United States, also gave a much-talked about speech on the European Union's future at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace.
