The Arctic Council opened doors towards the east
In its meeting, the Arctic Council granted observer status on the Council to six new states. In the Kiruna meeting, the Foreign Ministers also signed an agreement on cooperation on marine oil pollution, preparedness and response in the Arctic. Europe Information just published a book concerning the Arctic Region, “Arktinen kutsuu - Suomi, EU ja arktinen alue” (in Finnish, “Call of the Arctic – Finland, the EU and the Arctic Region”).

Friends of Finland Caucus established into the U.S. Congress
Friends of Finland Caucus was established into U.S. Congress on Thursday, May 9th. So far the Caucus has fifteen U.S. Congressmen as members, four of them who act as co-chairs of the group. So far Finland's Caucus has 15 congressmen as members.

Friends of Finland Congressional Caucus Founded
The founding meeting of the congressional Friends of Finland Caucus is organized on Thursday, May 9th at the Capitol Hill in Washington D.C. The Speaker of the Parliament of Finland, Eero Heinäluoma, attends the founding meeting of this bipartisan caucus, together with the Honorable Ritva Koukku-Ronde, Ambassador of Finland to the United States.

Joint effort towards the East – and elsewhere, too
U.S. Ambassador to Finland Bruce Oreck thinks that Finland has fantastic preconditions for capitalising on its geographical location and its own know-how as the Gateway to the East. The new Innovation Center at the U.S. Embassy in Helsinki provides excellent opportunities for Finnish players to increase their contacts also in the direction of the American market.

Negotiations for a EU–US trade agreement: the possibilities are great, but the road ahead won’t be easy
The ETLA report commissied by the Ministry for Foreign Affairs indicates that Finnish companies expect the possible EU–US trade and investment partnership agreement to have positive impacts for Finland.
