Include Russia! Carnegie's commission on Euro-Atlantic security
American Carnegie Endowment has launched an independent commission for discussing a security system capable of facing the challenges of the 21st century. The commission will address questions such as: What does Euro-Atlantic security mean? How can we rebuild trust between Russia and the West? How can we move from thinking in zero-sum terms to a way of thinking in win-win terms? Former Finnish Ambassador in Moscow and Berlin, René Nyberg will bring Finnish competence to the commission.

The EU and the United States to assist the poorest countries – at Finland’s initiative
The EU Member States have given their unanimous support to Finland’s initiative for a trans-Atlantic partnership to promote sustainable development, intending to strengthen the position of the poorest countries through intensified cooperation of the EU and the United States. The trans-Atlantic development initiative was a topic of discussion during the development ministers’ dinner, at the EU General Affairs and External Relations Council meeting in Brussels on 19 May.

Clinton and Stubb met in Washington, D.C.
Finnish Foreign Minister Alexander Stubb and US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton met in Washington, D.C. on Monday. Among other issues, the foreign ministers discussed topical questions concerning Afghanistan; they shared similar views on the importance of civilian crisis management and the related training. Russia, the Middle East and Pakistan were also topics of discussion.
