Welcome to Centennial Kalevala Dinner and Silent Auction

Finlandia Foundation National Capital Chapter's Centennial Kalevala Dinner and Silent Auction will take place at the Embassy of Finland on March 3 at 6:30 pm. This year's event celebrates Finland's 100 years of independence.

FFN Centenary Lecturer, Börje Vähämäki, will speak about "100 Years of Finnish Independence Through Film and Literature." Vähämäki, who earned his Doctoral Degree from Åbo Akademi University in Turku, initiated and directed the Finnish Studies Program at the University of Toronto until retiring in 2014. He has written books on the Finnish language, founded and edited the Journal of Finnish Studies and established a small publishing firm, Aspasia Books, Inc. which has translated and published many Finnish works into English.

The Nordic Dancers' performance will highlight the development of folk dance over the past 100 years. Many Finnish goods will be available to bid on during the silent auction and the dinner will be catered by Chef Mikko Catering.
