Online event: CYBERSECURITY – SECURING CRITICAL INFRASTRUCTURE
Join our distinguished Finnish-American panel for an online discussion on Securing Critical Infrastructure on 27 April at 9AM EDT. The panel discussion will focus on the current cybersecurity environment in the US, as well as possible solutions and best practices from Finland to develop cybersecurity and the resilience of critical infrastructure in the US.
President Joe Biden has urged US companies to secure their systems against cybersecurity threats. Critical infrastructure such as power, water, gas and other utilities are increasingly reliant on IoT and sophisticated technologies. Whereas cybersecurity has traditionally been seen as a military concern in the US, it is now perceived an increasingly serious threat to all businesses. Moreover, the Biden administration has pledged an additional $500 million to be added to the cyber defense budget.
In Finland, a 2020 massive nationwide security breach opened the public’s eyes to cybersecurity threats. The country has a unique history of public-private collaboration in protecting critical infrastructure. Some ground-breaking inventions originate from Finland, such as SSH encryptions for web browsers, 5G networks that are now enabling IoT, and Europe’s first proactive national cybersecurity strategy. Finns know that with great technology, comes great risk.
Through public-private collaboration, Finland has secured its spot at the forefront of identifying credible threats, figuring out what to do about them, and winning the battle against black-hat hackers. What lessons have the past decades in cybersecurity taught Finnish experts, and how do these experiences translate to the US market and local challenges in cybersecurity? Which specific vulnerabilities should be considered according to our international experts?
