Communication expert gets top Finnish honour
Cross-cultural communication specialist Richard D. Lewis has received one of Finland’s top honours. Lewis was awarded the Insignia of Commander, of the Order of the Lion of Finland 16th of June 2009 at the London residency of the Finnish Ambassador Jaakko Laajava.Lewis is a renowned expert in the field of cross-cultural interaction and communication and has published tens of books about the subject.

Cultural affairs officer Pirjo Pellinen:
We get to know cultural affairs officer Pirjo Pellinen as part of our series on the everyday working lives of staff at the Embassy of Finland. Pellinen is responsible for promoting Finnish culture in Britain and responds to general questions and enquiries about Finland. She is the longest serving staff member in the London building, having joined the Embassy in the early 1990s.

Savonlinna Opera Festival – Unique cultural experience in the midst of Finnish nature
This summer Finland’s Savonlinna Opera Festival will celebrate Italian opera in honour of Maria Callas. Some 60 000 festival visitors to the annual opera fest will be able enjoy Puccini's Madama Butterfly, directed by Henry Akina and productions by visiting opera group, the sicilian Teatro Massimo. Savonlinna Opera Festival is arranged this year from the 3rd of July to the 1st of August.

J. V. Snellman – father of Finnish culture
Finnish Heritage Day is celebrated on the 12th of May, which is also the birthday of Johan Vilhelm Snellman, a Finnish philosopher, writer and statesman. Even though Snellman was born in Sweden in 1806, he took the issue of Finnish culture to heart and played a significant role in the creation of Finnish culture. Snellman's aims were to strengthen Finnish society and the position of the Finnish language in the Grand Duchy of Finland.

Galleria Norsu represents Finnish contemporary art at the Collect Art Fair
The Finnish contemporary art gallery Galleria Norsu is taking part in the Collect: The International Art Fair for Contemporary Objects to be held in London from 15th - 17th May. This year, Galleria Norsu's focus will be on contemporary Finnish ceramic and jewellery art.
