Senior Specialist in higher education and science policy to strengthen cooperation in higher education and research between Finland and the United Kingdom
Birgitta Vuorinen joined the Finnish Embassy in London in early January as a senior specialist in higher education and science policy. She relocated to London from the Ministry of Education and Culture, where she worked as Director of the Division for Higher Education Policy. The UK thus became the ninth area of expertise for the Team Finland Knowledge network. Vuorinen’s task is to follow higher education and science policy in the UK, foster opportunities for cooperation, promote Finland’s visibility, and assist Finnish higher education institutions, research institutes and other innovation ecosystem stakeholders in their endeavours for closer cooperation with British parties.

Internal border control will end, restrictions on external border traffic will continue until 14 February
In line with the Government decision of 27 January, internal border control between Finland and all Schengen countries will end on 31 January. Restrictions on entry at Finland’s external borders will continue until 14 February.

Advance voting in Finnish county elections 2022 in the UK
Finland’s county elections will be held on Sunday 23rd January 2022. The advance voting period will be in Finland 12th–18th January and abroad 12th–15th January 2022. Abroad, advance voting will be organized by the Ministry for Foreign Affairs in 96 places in 71 different countries.

Internal border control reinstated for traffic between Finland and all Schengen countries on 28 December — travellers are advised to check the guidelines
The Government decided to reintroduce internal border control at Finland’s borders starting on Tuesday 28 December. The Government decided on the new restrictions at its session on 28 December. The decision will remain in force until 16 January 2022.
