Finnish Government gives go ahead for Nord Stream offshore gas pipeline
On 5 November 2009 the Finnish Government granted consent for Nord Stream AG to construct an offshore natural gas pipeline system that will traverse the Baltic Sea. Nord Stream will act as the operator of the natural gas pipeline system, which involves two parallel pipelines.

Dr. Robert Langer delivers Millennium Technology Prize lecture in London
Dr. Robert Langer, the pioneer in the field of biomaterials, delivered the Millennium Technology Prize lecture at the Wellcome Trust in London on 22 October. Dr. Langer won the Millennium Technology Prize in 2008 for his invention and development of innovative biomaterials for controlled drug release and tissue regeneration.

”Artek not a brand, but a mindset”
STANDARD fragrance, a joint creation by Finnish furniture and design company Artek and Japanese fashion house Comme des Garçon, was launched in London in October. The launch of the fragrance is one of the key events in Artek's upcoming 75th anniversary celebrations.

Harrods, VEEN Waters and Kaj Stenvall unite for a worthy cause
Finnish spring water brand VEEN and Mrs Heini Al Fayed from Harrods handed a £5000 cheque and a Kaj Stenvall painting to the Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity (GOSH) on 1st October. GOSH’s Director of Corporate Fundraising, Antonia Dalmahoy received the donation at a function at the Finnish Ambassador's residence in Kensington Palace Gardens.

Honorary Consul David Stone receives decoration of honour
Ambassador Jaakko Laajava presented Honorary Consul David Stone the insignia of Knight, First Class, of the Order of the Lion of Finland, the honour that was conferred on him by President Tarja Halonen. The decoration ceremony took place in the presence of Mr Stone's family at the official residence of the Ambassador of Finland in Kensington, London.
