The Embassy of Finland in London will be closed on Monday 27th August 2018 for the British Summer Bank Holiday. We are open normally again on Tuesday 28th of August.

Every August the annual Fringe Festival and Edinburgh International Festival turn the capital of Scotland into a world of arts and culture for three weeks. This autumn, as previous years, you can find some Finnish plays and stage productions at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

Fourth up in our article series introducing the Honorary Consuls of Finland in the United Kingdom is Chris Rostron. He was appointed as the Honorary Consul of Finland for Manchester on 2003. His area covers the city of Manchester and the surrounding areas.

In a natural continuation of Finland’s advocacy of dialogue in international relations, Helsinki hosts a meeting between the presidents of Russia and the US.

Minister of Defence Jussi Niinistö visits London this week. Minister Niinistö attends the event to mark the reaching of full operating capability of the Joint Expeditionary Force (JEF), led by Great Britain, and to sign a common memorandum of understanding (CMOU).

Perhaps it’s no surprise that Tina Korhonen, a photographer known for her portrayals of metal and rock culture (see slideshow), comes from Finland, a hub for metal music. She is nominated for Best Photographer in the 2018 Heavy Music Awards* (voting open until June 27).

The Embassy of Finland in London is closed on Friday, 22nd June 2018 for Midsummer's Eve. We are open normally again on Monday 25th June.

The sixth annual Harri Holkeri Lecture, organised by the Senator George J. Mitchell Institute for Global Peace, Security and Justice, and co-sponsored by the Finnish Government, took place on 29th of May at the Queens University in Belfast. Lecture series is organised to mark the contribution to building peace in Ireland of the late Finnish Prime Minister, Harri Holkeri.

Third up in our article series introducing the Honorary Consuls of Finland in the United Kingdom is Jill Sanders. She was appointed as the Honorary Consul of Finland for Plymouth on 2012.

Espoo has been named as one of the top seven cities in the international Intelligent Communities Awards 2018. Other finalists include cities from Canada, Australia and Taiwan. The winner city will be announced at the ICF Global Summit on 4-6 June in London.
