Covent Garden Market filled with Moomin fans

The Embassy of Finland in London helped to organise and attended the Moomin Summer Fun family party last weekend. The event, celebrating the birthday of Tove Jansson, mother and author of the Moomins, took place on 9th and 10th August. The weekend was full of Moomin music, storytelling and face-painting. You even got to meet the Moomins!

Saturday started with a lovely weather, and the Moomin themed tent at Covent Garden Market was soon full of enthusiastic Moomin fans. Author Philip Ardagh gave his best by reading exciting stories of the beloved Moomin family. Later on also the Moomin puppets of the Polka Theatre visited the event.

Like in all the good stories, also the Moomin event had a slightly dramatic twist on Saturday – the Moomin family was supposed to arrive to London on Saturday morning, but their plane broke and they weren't able to leave the Moominvalley before very late in the afternoon. Luckily the Moomins eventually managed to get to London safe and sound.

Sunday morning was like the beginning of the story The Moomins and the Great Flood: heavy rain didn't seem to stop! In the story the Moominvalley is flooded and the Moomin family has to leave their home - and soon find an abandoned theatre. In our case, the Moomin fans that made it through the rain got to enjoy interactive storytelling.

On Sunday, also the Moomin family finally made it to the party and gave amazing dance and music shows. Moomins were led to the stage by Benny Törnroos, the original performer of the Moomin's theme song. Dancing with the Moomins seemed to be the highlight of many small fans, and some bigger ones too!

We hope you had a great Moomin Summer Fun weekend!
