Government Information Office Ministry for Foreign Affairs

On Friday 31 January 2003, the meeting between the President of the Republic and the Cabinet Committee on Foreign and Security Policy discussed the current situation in Iraq. Finland supports, in a coherent manner, the UN's efforts to disarm Iraq of weapons of massdestruction. The UN Security Council has unanimously adopted Resolution 1441 on the matter. Finland considers it important that the resolution be implemented in a manner consistent with the Security Council's intention.

Finland has already previously expressed its readiness to reply to inquiries by the UN and its special bodies concerning humanitarian and other assistance after a possible conflict.
