Foreign Minister of Belgium Karel de Gucht visits Finland

The Belgian Minister for Foreign Affairs Karel de Gucht visits Finland 27 October and engages official discussions with Minister for Foreign Affairs of Finland Erkki Tuomioja. The discussions include current EU affairs, such as the future of EU, financial frameworks, common foreign and security policy, Russia and the Nordic Dimension. The ministers will also discuss current international issues, such as the situations in Middle East and Congo as well as the upcoming Belgian chairmanship of the OSCE.

During his visit minister De Gucht meets president Martti Ahtisaari and holds a speech on strenghtening the foreign relations of the EU. The speech takes place in the annex building of the Finnish Parliament on Thursday 27 October starting at 15.30. Chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Finnish parliament Liisa Jaakonsaari opens the event which will be organised by the Finnish Institute of International Affairs in cooperation with the Embassy of Belgium.
