Embassy of Finland in Tokyo officially represents Finland in Japan. It serves as a bridge between Finland and Japan aiming to develop the bilateral relations extensively from the perspective of Finnish interests. The Embassy is led by Ambassador Tanja Jääskeläinen. In addition to Japan its domain of responsibility comprises also Micronesia, Palau and the Marshall Islands.
Political and economic functions form the foundation for the work of the Embassy. These include negotiations, establishing connections with relevant contacts in Japan, following political and economic developments and reporting to the Finnish government and relevant ministries. The Embassy is also responsible for organizing official visits.
The Embassy serves customers in matters concerning passports, visas and residence permits, provides notarial services and assists Finnish citizens and foreigners permanently living in Finland in crisis situations. The Honorary Consulates of Finland in Japan are located in Hokkaido, Nagoya, Kita-Kyushu and Osaka.
The Embassy’s press and culture section promotes Finland’s country image in Japan by the means of communications and culture. The press team replies to inquiries by media, takes care of press arrangements during official visits, organizes media visits to Finland, and facilitates the development of cultural connections between Finland and Japan.
Team Finland is a wide network serving Finnish companies in Japan. The Embassy, the Embassy Trade Section Business Finland, The Finnish-Japanese Chamber of Commerce (FCCJ) and the Finnish Institute in Japan are at its core. These institutions work in seamless collaboration within the Embassy compound.
