Finnish Schools in China

There are two Finnish schools in operation in Mainland China, located in Beijing and Shanghai. Schooldays are on Saturdays, taking place 7–9 times a semester.

The mission of Finnish schools is to develop and maintain the Finnish language abilities of 3–18-year-old Finnish children living in China as well as to cherish Finnish traditions and culture. The instruction targets children and youth who speak Finnish as their first or second language.

Finnish schools have become an important meeting place for expatriate Finns: besides language learning for children, the school provides the parents with a possibility to meet other Finns and have a chat in Finnish. There are also common celebrations and events that help to create Finnish atmosphere and to strengthen the Finnish identity – even far away from home.
