The Embassy and honorary consulates are doing their best to help Finnish citizens and permanent residents of Finland who are travelling abroad, but please be patient. Our services are currently overloaded, and it might take us a while to get back to you. Finns that have recently returned to Finland or those still travelling are advised to keep their travel details up-to-date at so we can connect with you.
Furthermore, we are taking measures to protect the health and safety of staff, stakeholders and the community from COVID-19. For now, staff are working remotely on a rotational basis. Due to the coronavirus situation, we may need to make changes to the Embassy’s opening hours at short notice. Changes will be announced via the Embassy’s Facebook page.

Please note answers to most customer enquiries can be found on this website. Customer service for the Consular Section at the Embassy is closed on all Finnish and Australian public holidays.


As a precaution against the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19), the Embassy of Finland in Canberra has limited consular operations to emergency services only. For now, on the instruction of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs, our passport service is open only in urgent emergency cases – appointment mandatory. All other services, including residence permit and Schengen visa applications, have been suspended.
