Foreign Minister Valtonen to attend meeting of NATO Ministers of Foreign Affairs

Finland’s Minister for Foreign Affairs Elina Valtonen will attend a meeting of NATO Ministers of Foreign Affairs in Brussels on 28–29 November.

The foreign ministers will discuss the 2024 NATO Summit in Washington D.C., support for Ukraine, and NATO–EU cooperation especially in the Western Balkans. The first meeting of the NATO-Ukraine Council in Foreign Ministers’ session will be held during the ministerial meeting.

“Russia’s illegal invasion of Ukraine is the greatest challenge to Euro-Atlantic security,” Foreign Minister Valtonen says. “The NATO-Ukraine Council session will consolidate decisions of the Vilnius Summit to continue supporting Ukraine and to deepen the political relations between Ukraine and NATO. Finland continues to support Ukraine. We recently decided to deliver our 20th package of defence materiel assistance to Ukraine.”

The meeting of NATO Ministers of Foreign Affairs is an important step in the preparations for the upcoming Washington Summit. The meeting will be chaired by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg. High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell will attend the session discussing the cooperation between NATO and the EU, and Ukraine’s Minister for Foreign Affairs Dmytro Kuleba will attend the NATO-Ukraine Council session.
