Design Meets Diplomacy: Finland-China 75th Anniversary Logo Design Competition Unveils Its Winner

The Team Finland China is pleased to announce the winner of the Finland-China Anniversary Logo Design Competition. The competition, which was open to students from Tongji University, aimed to create a logo that symbolizes 75 years of diplomatic, cultural, and economic relations between Finland and China.

After an evaluation process, the judging panel, consisting of representatives from Team Finland China, design experts, and Tongji University faculty, has selected Tai Yixuan, PhD student of the College of Design and Innovation majoring in Media and Interaction Design at Tongji University, as the first prize recipient. The winning design stood out for its creativity, relevance, and aesthetic excellence.

The announcement and unveiling of the winning logo took place at a reception on February 26, 2025 at the Residence of the Consul General of Finland, Shanghai. Distinguished guests, including diplomatic representatives, design professionals, and Tongji University faculty members, gathered to celebrate the occasion.

PhD student Tai Yixuan, the winner of the competition, described her design as follows:

I was fortunate to participate in a collaborative program between Aalto University in Finland and the College of Design and Innovation at Tongji University. I deeply sensed a shared spirit in both countries’ cultures and design philosophies: kindness, humility, respect for life, and reverence for nature. Inspired by the Tao Te Ching’s idea that “the highest good is like water, benefiting all things without competing,” I expressed this through rippling forms symbolizing the water systems of both nations and their collaborative spirit.

The winning logo will be used across various Team Finland events, communications, and initiatives marking the 75th anniversary of Finland-China diplomatic relations throughout 2025.
