Group of experts to analyse Khiam reports

On Friday, 15 September, the Prime Minister’s Office appointed a group of experts to analyse and assess Israeli’s Khiam strike report and the United Nation’s report into the Israeli strike on the UN observation post in southern Lebanon. The experts will also be in contact with the family of Lieutenant-Commander Jarno Mäkinen who was killed in the Israeli airstrike. 

The group of experts will continue their work until the end of 2006.

The group is chaired by Irma Ertman, the Director General of the Legal Department at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs. Olli-Pekka Jalonen, Director of International Defence Policy Unit at the Ministry of Defence acts as vice-chairman. Other members are: Heikki Aaltonen, Permanent State Under-Secretary, Prime Minister’s Office; Juha Kilpiä, Brigadier General, Defence Staff; Marcus Laurent, Deputy Director General, Ministry for Foreign Affairs; Mika Lundelin, Legal Adviser, Ministry of Defence; and Kimmo Lähdevirta, Head of Unit, Ministry for Foreign Affairs.

Secretaries of the group are: Tapio Puurunen, Legislative Counsellor, Ministry for Foreign Affairs and Heikki Hovi, Planning Officer, Government Security, Prime Minister’s Office.
