The services provided by the missions are part of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs’ business services. The Ministry for Foreign Affairs is a member of Team Finland, a network of public sector actors providing internationalisation services to Finnish companies.

Market information

Finnish know-how is in high demand in Canada. Canada’s economy is the world’s 9th largest. Despite the global economic crisis, Canada’s economy has remained stable in 2023. Finnish companies have good market opportunities in the following industries:  

  • Shipbuilding, harbors and green marine technology 
  • Mining 
  • Forest and bioeconomy 
  • Renewable energy and circular economy. 

Canada also provides a good starting point to the US market and a way to enter North America. Climate, forestation and weather conditions offer a good comparison to the Nordic countries. Canadians have positive things to say about Finnish experts and Nordic know-how.

Team Finland network's objectives in Canada 

The objectives of the Team Finland network in Canada are to advance economic relations between the two countries and promote Finland’s country brand in Canada. Team Finland aims to both facilitate business activities of Finnish companies in Canada, and boost Canadians’ interest in investing in Finland. 

In Canada, the Team Finland network includes the Embassy of Finland to Canada (Ottawa) and Business Finland (Toronto). We work closely with various partners such as Finnish Honorary Consuls and Finnish-Canadian Chambers of Commerce.  

Finnish honorary consulates

Honorary consulates complement Finland’s network of missions abroad, which consists of embassies, consulates general, consulates and liaison offices. Honorary consuls are private individuals who carry out consular functions on a part-time basis without remuneration. An honorary consul can advise Finnish companies on how to get information on local business culture and find business partners, among other matters.
