Greetings from Ambassador Roy Eriksson
Hello to all readers! My name is Roy Eriksson and I am the new Ambassador of Finland to Canada. It is nice to be back! I served in Ottawa between 1995 and 1998 as the Deputy Head of Mission in the Embassy. I arrived here in mid-June with my wife, Victoria Eriksson, directly from Mexico, where I served as the Ambassador of Finland for nearly four years. From Mexico, I was accredited as Ambassador to nine other countries in Central America and the Caribbean.

Students planned the catering for the Arctic Council’s Ministerial Meeting
The 11th Arctic Council Ministerial Meeting was held in Rovaniemi, Finland, on 7 May 2019. The meeting was hosted by Finland and chaired by Minister for Foreign Affairs Timo Soini. The Foreign Ministers of all the Arctic States attended the meeting. The meetings were planned according to the green meetings concept. Catering is an essential part of sustainable meeting arrangements. The Ministry for Foreign Affairs worked in close cooperation with local service providers but and Haaga-Helia University of Applied Sciences.

Postal voting in the European Elections 2019: order voting documents
A possibility to vote by mail is was introduced in the parliamentary elections this spring . This means that eligible voters who reside abroad permanently (expatriate Finns) and eligible voters who reside in Finland but are abroad at the time of the elections may vote by mail. Finns may also vote by mail in the upcoming elections for the European Parliament. Advance voting will be arranged at Finnish diplomatic and consular missions abroad in the same manner as before.

Advance voting in the European Elections in Canada 2019
The elections to the European Parliament (European Elections) will be held in Finland on Sunday 26 May 2019. Ministry for Foreign Affairs is responsible for the organisation of advance voting abroad. Advance voting will be possible in Canada from 15 to 17 May in five cities.

Finland's Arctic Council Chairmanship comes to an end in Rovaniemi
Finland's two-year Chairmanship of the Arctic Council will end at the Foreign Ministerial Meeting that will be held in Rovaniemi on 7 May. The Foreign Ministers of all the eight Arctic States – Canada, the Kingdom of Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, the Russian Federation, Sweden, and the United States – are expected to arrive in Rovaniemi. The Ministerial Meeting will be chaired by Minister for Foreign Affairs Timo Soini.

Globetrotting Finnish documentaries at Hot Docs International Film Festival in Toronto
2019 is turning out to be quite the year for Finnish documentaries, making their mark at festivals, including North America’s largest documentary festival, Toronto’s Hot Docs (April 25 – May 5). Seven Finnish films made the festival to present their interpretation of the art of documentary.

Advance Voting in Finland's Parliamentary Elections in Canada 2019
The parliamentary elections will be held on Sunday 14 April 2019. Advance voting will be possible abroad from 3 to 6 April. The Ministry for Foreign Affairs is responsible for the organisation of advance voting abroad. In Canada voting will be organized in six cities.
