Embassy is Hiring a Chef

The Embassy of Finland in Ottawa is looking for a part-time (20 h/week) Chef to the Ambassador’s residence for a fixed-term contract starting by agreement. The applicant should have applicable culinary training and interest in working in an international environment. The Embassy offers a unique and rewarding opportunity to grow professionally and be creative.

The Embassy of Finland hosts multiple events both at the Ambassador’s residence and other venues in Ottawa and Canada. To be successful in the position you should have a service-minded attitude, fluency in English, good communication and social skills.  In addition to this, creativity is needed to present Finnish food and culinary culture in an innovative way.

In addition to this, interest in content creation to further the knowledge of Finland and Finnish culinary culture in Canada is considered an asset.

Duties will include:

  • Participating in planning and implementation of events
  • Preparing food for different high level events such as dinners, reception and luncheons at the residence of the Ambassador of Finland
  • Menu preparations and wine pairings with cost estimations and purchasing the needed groceries
  • Tasks related to the maintenance of the residence
  • To be part of the embassy's team in comprehensively representing Finland
  • Other duties and tasks assigned by the Ambassador

Requirements:

  • A degree from a culinary institute and work experience in the culinary field
  • Extensive knowledge on preparing foods for different kind of occasions from small dinner parties to large scale receptions
  • Ability to work independently as well as a member of a team
  • Flexibility; ability to work flexible hours (including evenings and weekends)
  • Ability to lead a kitchen as well as serving staff
  • Previous experience of similar duties and knowledge of Finnish culinary traditions will be considered as an asset

A successful candidate will be required to complete a Criminal Records Review check-in and/or security clearance as required by Finnish law.
