President Martti Ahtisaari: Book of Condolences

President Martti Ahtisaari has died at the age of 86.

President Ahtisaari was a pioneer of peace mediation in Finland and across the world. He never gave up his conviction that all conflicts can be resolved.

A book of condolences will be opened at the Embassy of Finland on Wednesday 18 and Thursday 19 October between 10am and 4pm. All are welcome to pay their last respects President Ahtisaari.

President Ahtisaari served as President of the Republic of Finland for six years, from 1994 to 2000. He was Finland’s tenth President. Before his presidency, he held several significant positions in the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland and in the United Nations. After his presidency, he founded CMI – Martti Ahtisaari Peace Foundation and worked actively as a peace mediator. President Ahtisaari’s lifetime achievement as a peacemaker was rewarded with the Nobel Peace Prize in 2008.
