World Press Freedom Day highlights importance of freedom of expression for democracy and security
World Press Freedom Day is celebrated on 3 May. The day reminds us of the importance of free and independent media as the foundation for democracy, the rule of law and an open society. Finland promotes media freedom, which is fundamental to freedom of speech and expression, as part of its foreign and security policy.

Finnvera Deepens Engagement with Turkish Partners
Finnvera, Finland’s official export credit agency, together with Business Finland, recently undertook a visit to Türkiye to meet with leading international contractors and key stakeholders. During the visit, the delegation also participated in the Finland Country Day event hosted by the Ankara Chamber of Industry.

Minister of the Interior Mari Rantanen visited Türkiye to meet with the Turkish Minister of Interior Mustafa Çiftçi. Topics on the ministers’ agenda included the effects of the situation in the Middle East on migration as well as counterterrorism and police cooperation.

Embassy acknowledged the MFC co-chairmanship and the International Women's Day
Finland is currently serving as co-chair of the Media Freedom Coalition (MFC). To acknowledge both the co-chairmanship as well as International Women’s Day, the Embassy of Finland recently hosted an iftar dinner for women journalists during Ramadan. The dinner provided a great opportunity to discuss the situation of women journalists in Türkiye as well as broader issues related to media freedom.
