4 July, 2006

Minister of European Affairs Paula Lehtomäki will attend a plenary session of the European Parliament on Wednesday, 5 July, in Strasbourg as a representative of the Presidency of the Council. Themes of the plenary session include the situation in the Palestinian Authority and the Union’s visa policy with Western Balkan countries. During the question time Minister Lehtomäki will, as a representative of the Council, answer to MPs’ questions concerning various policy sectors.

Together with Margot Wallström, member of the European Commission, Minister Lehtomäki will attend a meeting of the Interinstitutional Group on Information (IGI) to discuss matters of EU information and communication policy. In addition, Minister Lehtomäki will present the programme of Finland’s EU Presidency to the Council of Europe on 4 July in Strasbourg and to the European Economic and Social Committee on 6 July in Brussels.

As a Presidency greeting to MPs, Minister of European Affairs Paula Lehtomäki has sent to all of them a Finnish film entitled FC Venus directed by Joona Tena. The gift was chosen because of the topical football theme and because it describes the main pillars of the Finnish society: cooperation and equality.
