Responsibilities of the Embassy

The Embassy of Finland in Lusaka is in charge of promoting political and economic relations between Finland and Zambia, as well as Zimbabwe, Malawi and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. It is also responsible for Finland’s relations with the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA). Ambassador of Finland to Zambia, Malawi and Zimbabwe is Ms. Saana Halinen.

There is a strong focus on facilitating trade relations. The ‘Accelerated Growth for SME’s in Zambia’ programme, funded by Finland, aims at strengthening the Zambian SME sector, and at promoting private sector partnerships between the two countries.

Finland is also present in Zambia and in the region through Finnish non-governmental organizations, as well as its funding to regional programmes. The European Union, United Nations, World Bank and African Development Bank are important partners for Finland.

The Embassy offers consular services and provides assistance to Finnish nationals.
