Market information
Finnish expertise and Zambian demand align particularly in sustainable mining services, circular economy solutions, and the sustainable use of natural resources. The Embassy maintains an active high-level dialogue with various sector ministries in these fields. Strong bilateral relations, a positive image of Finland, and the Embassy’s active cooperation with public and private sector actors create favorable conditions for Finnish companies to enter the Zambian market.
The mining sector is the most significant contributor to Zambia’s GDP and accounts for 70% of the country’s export revenues. Zambia is Africa’s second-largest and the world’s seventh-largest producer of copper. There is particularly strong demand for Finnish companies’ solutions in sustainable mining. EU Global Gateway projects, as well as new mining projects and mine expansions, offer opportunities for Finnish companies in the development of transport and housing infrastructure, energy systems, and digital connectivity. There are also opportunities for circular economy solutions and innovations. The Zambian government is committed to promoting the circular economy, and the EU is financing the development and growth of small and medium-sized enterprises in this sector. This can also benefit Finnish companies that have established partnerships with Zambian businesses. Finland is also well known in Zambia for its high-quality education, and the country offers opportunities for developing curricula, teacher training, and technical and vocational education, particularly in the forestry, water, and mining sectors.
Political stability and a relatively favorable business environment compared with other countries in the region provide good opportunities for Finnish companies to operate in Zambia. Finland is recognized as a strong partner in private sector development, and the two countries maintain extensive people-to-people and institutional links.
