Foreign Minister Erkki Tuomioja condems London terrorist attacks

On Thursday morning a series of bomb blasts occurred in London's transport network, which is proving to be caused by international terrorism. The areas which have been hit are still in turmoil, and information about the exact number of the victims remains unconfirmed.

I would like to express my deepest condolences to the families of the victims as well as to the Government of the United Kingdom. The incidents in London have a deep impact on us Finns too. I vehemently condemn these shocking and cruel acts. The threat of international terrorism is continuous, and we must increase our efforts to prevent it. We are willing to operate according to the draft of the Constitutional Treaty and to provide the Government of the United Kingdom with all the support it may require.

The Finnish Embassy in London is following the situation and is in contact with the British authorities to find out whether there are any Finnish citizens among the victims. Should there be verification of any Finnish casualties are verified, the Foreign Ministry will contact their families. Finnish relatives staying in London may be reached by text messages unless there is a telecommunications breakdown. So far there is no information of Finnish casualties.
