Hitting the Ground Running workshop

Ever since 2004, Finland has organized an annual retreat for the current and the newly elected members of the UN Security Council. The 2023 event marked the 20th consecutive year of this tradition.

The ”Hitting the Ground Running” retreat offers a forum for discussions between the current and the newly elected Security Council members, allowing them to prepare for their upcoming terms.

The discussions are held in an informal setting, allowing the members of the Council to exchange experiences under Chatham House rules.

After each event, the Government of Finland produces a report, which is circulated among the UN membership. You can find all the previous reports (available in all the five official UN languages) here(Link to another website.).

The Government of Finland remains committed to sponsoring the workshop as an annual event at the Greentree Foundation.
