Foreign Minister Erkki Tuomioja’s statement on the decision to advance plans for settlement units
Finland condemns Israel’s decision to advance plans for 2,610 housing units in Givat Hamatos. The implementation of the plan to build a new settlement in East Jerusalem would constitute a threat to the prospects for a peaceful two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, as well as to the position of Jerusalem as the capital of both states. Finland calls on the Government of Israel to reverse its decision.

Minister Hautala in the Middle East: water is a burning issue
The focus of Minister Heidi Hautala's visit was on development cooperation and humanitarian assistance: this year, Finnish support for development cooperation work performed in the Palestinian territories amounts to EUR 9 million. In addition, Finland provides a total of EUR 4.5 million of funding to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA).
