Ambassador of Finland to Israel, H.E. Dr. Nina Nordström

Dr. Nina Nordström started her term as the Head of Mission at the Embassy of Finland in Tel Aviv on 1 September 2023. Previously, Nina Nordström served as Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Finland to the Council of Europe (CoE) in Strasbourg from July 2019 until August 2023. She has been a diplomat since 1999.

Ambassador Nordström has served as Director of the Unit for Human Rights Policy at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs in Helsinki for over five years. Her earlier postings include the Permanent Mission of Finland to the United Nations in New York, where she headed the Development and Human Rights Section, and the Embassies of Finland in Tallinn, Stockholm and Bucharest. She has also served in the Unit for Disarmament, Arms Control and Non-proliferation at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs.

Ambassador Nordström has served as Director at UNICEF Headquarters in New York, where she headed the Secretariat of the UNICEF Executive Board. In Strasbourg, Ambassador Nordström chaired i.a. the CoE’s Rapporteur Group on Human Rights. She also chaired the Committee of Parties to the CoE Istanbul Convention on Preventing and Combating Violence against Women and Domestic Violence and the Statutory Committee of GRECO, the CoE’s main anti-corruption body.

Ambassador Nordström holds several post-graduate degrees in international politics and law, from Åbo Akademi University and the London School of Economics, as well as a Doctor of Laws (LL.D.) degree in Public International Law from the European University Institute in Florence.

Ambassador Nordström is a native speaker of Swedish and Finnish, fluent in English and very happy to speak German, French, Estonian and Italian.

During her free time Nina Nordström relaxes by walking in nature and by taking care of an old family farm in the Finnish countryside. She finds great inspiration through encounters with new people.
