Finland and India are close to each other – the direct flight from Helsinki to New Delhi only takes about six hours. The diverse cooperation between our countries is increasing all the time. Our relations are excellent, but there is great potential to do even more together!
The Finnish Embassy’s mission is to deepen political and economic relations between Finland and India, as well as our cooperation in innovation, science, education and culture. Building bridges between our countries is important – together Finland and India can find solutions to the global challenges we are facing today. Moreover, deepening and broadening the strategic partnership between India and the European Union is very important to us.
In addition all major Finnish companies are present in India. Investments between our countries are growing. Research, innovation and start-up collaboration between our tech-nations is vibrant. The task of the Business Finland Office in India is to enhance the business relations, to stimulate direct investments and to promote tourism. The Finland Chamber of Commerce in India was established in 2018.
The Embassy is also in charge of immigration, visa and consular affairs. Indian travelers, students, experts and business representatives are heading to Finland in growing numbers. Indian tourism to Finland, for example, has been growing by 30% annually during the recent years.
Finland has four Honorary Consuls in India, located in Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata and Bangalore. I am also side-accredited to Bangladesh, where we also have Honorary Consul General.
The Finnish Embassy Compound is located in the leafy neighbourhood of Chanakyapuri. With its inspiration drawn from the winter landscape of Finland and the snowy peaks of the Himalayas, our Embassy is often cited as one the most beautiful in New Delhi. All buildings on the compound are designed by Finnish architects Raili and Reima Pietilä.
I look forward to fruitful collaborations between Finland and India, and with all of you! Our team is happy to take on board new ideas and proposals – please take contact.
Ambassador Ritva Koukku-Ronde
