EU Foreign Affairs Council to discuss Russian aggression against Ukraine, situation in Israel and the region, Armenia and Azerbaijan and economic security
EU foreign ministers will convene in Brussels on 13 November. Minister for Foreign Affairs Elina Valtonen will represent Finland at the meeting.
The discussion on the Russian aggression against Ukraine will cover at least security commitments, the Ukrainian Peace Formula and sanctions.
”We need strong measures to reinforce the capacity of European defence industries. We must make use of all possible EU common procurement and funding systems,” says Minister for Foreign Affairs Valtonen.
The Foreign Affairs Council has the situation in Israel and the region on its agenda.
”It is of paramount importance that the EU act strongly so that humanitarian aid will reach Gaza. We must prevent the war from escalating into a wider regional conflict and start paving the way for a permanent, peaceful resolution,” says Minister for Foreign Affairs Valtonen.
The ministers will also exchange views on the latest developments concerning Armenia and Azerbaijan and the foreign policy dimension of the EU’s economic security. In addition, the ministers will meet informally with the COP28 President-designate, Sultan Al Jaber. A meeting of the EU and Western Balkan foreign ministers will be held in connection with the Foreign Affairs Council.
