EU foreign ministers will convene in Luxembourg on 24 April. Minister for Foreign Affairs Pekka Haavisto will represent Finland at the meeting.

Foreign Affairs Council 24.4.

The EU foreign ministers will continue their discussion on Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. The topics will include the EU’s continued military support to Ukraine and sanctions against Russia.

“The EU must sustain its pressure on Russia through sanctions and focus on preventing the circumvention of sanctions by highlighting it consistently in discussions with third countries. Russia is actively seeking to circumvent EU sanctions by exploiting its contacts with third countries,” says Foreign Minister Haavisto.

The foreign ministers will also exchange views on the EU global action plan on the geopolitical consequences of the Russian war of aggression. The topics will include the implementation of the action plan in third countries and cooperation with like-minded countries.

The ministers will be informed about current affairs in Moldova, Tunisia, Iran, Lebanon, China and Sudan and in the Middle East Peace Process.

The Foreign Affairs Council will be preceded by an informal breakfast with the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Marija Pejčinović Burić, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iceland, Þórdís Kolbrún Reykfjörð Gylfadóttir. The EU ministers will also exchange views with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, Ilia Darchiashvili.
