Tunisia’s economy is facing challenges related to foreign financing, a relatively high public debt, and worsening drought conditions. On the other hand, the economy has continued to grow at a moderate pace, with agricultural production and tourism, among other sectors, performing well. Currently, Tunisia is implementing some reforms, such as reducing bureaucracy, but it remains reluctant to address the most difficult and critical structural issues hindering economic growth, such as the dismantling of state subsidies. Increasing competitiveness, strengthening public finances, and adapting to climate change are key to restoring stronger economic growth and strengthening economic resilience. Tunisia also offers opportunities for Finnish companies, and the EU’s strong partnership with Tunisia reinforces these opportunities in areas such as digitalization and the energy, water, and circular economy sectors. Tunisia aims to increase the share of renewable energy in its electricity production to 30 percent by 2030. There is also widespread interest in the Finnish education system in Tunisia. The Embassy urges those interested in the Tunisian market to conduct a thorough market analysis, take risks into account, and invest in selecting a local partner. In the future, Tunisia could also serve as a gateway to Africa and the Arab world.

Honorary consulates complement Finland’s network of missions abroad, which consists of embassies, consulates general, consulates and liaison offices. Honorary consuls are private individuals who carry out consular functions on a part-time basis without remuneration. An honorary consul can advise Finnish companies on how to get information on local business culture and find business partners, among other matters.
