The photo exhibition `MOMENTS in The Building of a Nation´ was opened on Tuesday 31.10.2017 by the Ambassador of Finland, Ms. Tarja Fernández, at the United Nations Office at Nairobi. The exhibition is part of the celebratory programme for the centenary of Finland’s independence in 2017.

"Finland became a successful welfare nation in just 100 years, by following the values we share with the United Nations: equality, free quality education for all, sustainable development, human rights and human dignity", said Ambassador Fernández.

The exhibition, presented by the Embassy of Finland in Nairobi in co-operation with A & S Photo and Film Foundation, Helsinki, presents the works of three master photographers spanning from the early 1930s to the 1970s. The photographers – Heikki Aho, Björn Soldan and Claire Aho – have captured the history of Finnish everyday life and the industrialization processes in society.

As the Ambassador noted in her speech, after 100 years of independence Finland is still not a perfect, "Finished" country. Finland is committed to the Sustainable Development goals, and to building a greener and more equal society.

The pictures showcase the Finnish love of nature and the Finnish diligence at work. More importantly however, they show the Finnish love for their family and friends, the will to be 'Together', which is also the theme of Finland’s centenary celebration year.
