Finland to support security troops in the Sahel region
Finland will fund the development of joint security troops in the Sahel region with EUR 900 000. The support will be channelled via the EU’s African Peace Facility fund, to be used to provide the troops with material support and services. Finland’s contribution cannot be directed to buy weapons or other lethal material.
Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Anne-Mari Virolainen to EU development ministers' meeting
An Informal meeting of EU development ministers will be organised in Brussels on 20 February 2018. Finland's representative at the meeting will be Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Anne-Mari Virolainen. The ministers will discuss, among other things, EU's financial instruments for external action after 2020, on which decisions will be made in the forthcoming negotiations concerning the EU's Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF).
Ministers appointed in Sipilä’s Government
On 12 January, the President of the Republic transferred and appointed Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Kai Mykkänen to the post of Minister of the Interior and appointed Member of Parliament Anne-Mari Virolainen to the post of Minister for Foreign Trade and Development.
EUR 206.8 million to CSOs' development cooperation
Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Kai Mykkänen adopted a decision of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs to grant EUR 206.8 million to Finnish civil society organisations (CSOs) for development cooperation programmes to be carried out in 2018–2021.The funding is directed to 22 programmes. The five biggest recipients are Finn Church Aid, the Finnish Evangelical Lutheran Mission, Fida International, Plan Finland, and the Finnish Red Cross.
A hundred years of foreign policy – Foreign Ministry's public event in Pori
As a part of its 100th anniversary, the Ministry for Foreign Affairs will present its activities in various public events to be organised in different parts of the country. On 13 February, a public event will be organised in Pori.
