Foreign Minister Erkki Tuomioja condemns terrorism categorically

I categorically condemn all forms of terrorism. We are all deeply shocked by the attacks that took place in the United States today. The magnitude of the precisely calculated act of terrorism is not yet known. It is difficult to grasp what has happened and I cannot understand why anyone would deliberately cause such senseless distruction and loss of lives. It is evident that countering terrorism and violent attacks takes now even higher priority on the agenda of international cooperation. Efforts to strengthen security and peace must be increased everywhere.

Finnish missions abroad have been instructed to monitor the situation carefully.

The President of the Republic of Finland has sent her condolences to the President of the United States which are shared by all Finns.
