EU Foreign Affairs Council to discuss Russian aggression against Ukraine, relations with Latin America and the Caribbean, and digital diplomacy

EU foreign ministers will convene in Luxembourg on 26 June. Minister for Foreign Affairs Elina Valtonen will represent Finland at the meeting.

The EU foreign ministers will continue their discussion on Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. They will discuss the continuation of the EU's military support to Ukraine and accountability matters. The ministers will also exchange views on Ukraine’s peace plan.

“Finland’s support to Ukraine and the country’s sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity is unwavering,” says Minister for Foreign Affairs Valtonen.

The foreign ministers will also discuss deepening the relations between the EU and Latin America and the Caribbean. A summit between the EU and the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (EU-CELAC) will take place in Brussels in July.

The foreign ministers will also discuss digital diplomacy. The Foreign Affairs Council will discuss the subject in order to enhance the EU’s digital diplomacy with an emphasis on the change in the foreign and security policy situation and the wide-ranging societal, economic and security effects of rapid technological development.

“It is important to examine the EU's external relations as a whole. Technology policy is a major element of Finland’s strategic foreign and security policy,” says Foreign Minister Valtonen.

Under current affairs, the Council will for instance discuss about Tunisia, the situation in Kosovo, and Armenia and Azerbaijan.
