Nordic Sustainable Mining Türkiye 2024 addresses financing for sustainability and digitalization

The Nordic Sustainable Mining Türkiye 2024 event series continued with its second edition this year at the Swedish residence in Ankara on May 28. H.E. Malena Mård, Ambassador of Sweden to Türkiye; Dr. Mattias Lindgren, Trade Commissioner for Poland, Head of Türkiye, Country Manager for Poland, Romania and Eurasia at Business Sweden; and Mr. Joona Selin, Commercial Counsellor at the Embassy of Finland in Ankara delivered welcome notes and opening messages, setting the stage for a lively half-day session.

Mr. Lawrence Hooey, Technology and Innovation Manager at Swedish Mining Innovation shared the innovation programs current activities on sustainable mining practices in Sweden.  On his part, Mr. Baris Erdem, Board Member at Miners Association of Turkiye (TMD) and Director at EGEMAD Madencilik Enerji Dan. San. ve Tic. A.Ş. discussed the ongoing sustainability and digitalization focus in Turkish Mining Industry.

Two Nordic export credit agencies, EKN and Finnvera shared their perspective on export financing opportunities in mining industry in Türkiye. For EKN, Ms.  Ina Kasperovic, Underwriter, and Mr. Martin Bergman, Legal Counsel took the stage, while for Finnvera Mr. Kari P. Korhonen, Senior Advisor, shared his organizations position and outlook. Both export credit agencies shared a message of confidence towards increased activity and collaboration in the Turkish mining industry with Finnish and Swedish technology companies.

The program concluded with an interactive session to explore collaboration between Turkish and Nordic stakeholders in participation, followed by a sumptuous lunch reception. The Nordic Sustainable Mining Türkiye 2024 event series will conclude with a third event which will be organized in the second half of the year.
