According to Nokia’s press release, the first locally produced radio modules are ready to be shipped to customers in Turkey in May. Özgür Erzincan, a Senior Country Officer for Nokia in Turkey, said that Nokia and Karel decided to produce mobile technology products locally. According to him, after completing the frequency and authorization studies of 5G in Turkey, the production will be expanded to cover 5G products. He also said that this collaboration demonstrates the importance of Turkey to Nokia, and they will continue to create value in Turkey as well as in other areas.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Deputy Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Ömer Fatih Sayan said that the Nokia-Karel collaboration is a good example of the transition from a user-oriented approach to a production-oriented approach in Turkey. According to Sayan, the cooperation where both companies benefit from each other’s talents and opportunities with a win-win principle is an important step towards domestic and foreign markets.

Chairman of the Board of Karel Sinan Tunaoğlu said that the company gains momentum by collaborating with global companies specialized in technology that is in line with Karel’s long-term sustainability development goals. He also stated that Karel is proud that the 4.5G and 5G base stations produced in cooperation with Nokia are used in Turkey’s infrastructure.

Karel engineers received 5400 hours of training at the Nokia Finland factory in Oulu and locally at the Karel factory to ensure high production standards. Moreover, the collaboration contributed to the creation of 80 new jobs to support the production at the Karel factory. According to Erzincan, both companies have made an initial investment of 100 million liras.
