Foreign Minister Fidan’s visit to Helsinki
Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan visited Helsinki on 4-5 November and was hosted by his Finnish counterpart Foreign Minister Elina Valtonen.
Fidan and Valtonen discussed bilateral Finnish-Turkish relations and the deepening of cooperation between the two countries in various sectors, such as trade and defense industry. Current topics including the situation in Gaza, the war in Ukraine were also on the meeting’s agenda, as well as Türkiye’s EU accession process. During the joint press conference, Fidan and Valtonen underlined their joint commitment as NATO allies to transatlantic security.
Beyond his meeting with Valtonen, Fidan met Jussi Halla-Aho, Speaker of the Parliament of Finland and delivered a speech at an event in the Finnish parliament titled Türkiye–Finland Cooperation.
He also paid visit to the president and representatives of the Finnish-Islamic congregation of the Finnish Tatar community, and highlighted the presence of 18,000 Turkish citizens in Finland, both serving as examples of strong human ties between the two countries.
