Finland and Türkiye Deepen Defence Ties During Flag Day Celebration
The Flag Day reception, hosted by Ambassador Pirkko Hämäläinen and Defence Attaché Colonel Janne Hakaniemi at the Sheraton Hotel in Ankara, solemnly commemorated the Finnish Defence Forces Flag Day, officially observed on June 4th. This significant occasion honors distinguished soldiers and reservists through promotions and military parades held throughout Finland. Additionally, June 4th marks the birth anniversary of the revered military leader and former President, Carl Gustaf Emil Mannerheim.
The event was attended by distinguished representatives from the Turkish Army, diplomatic circles, military officials, and members of the cultural community, underscoring the enduring historical and military ties between Finland and Türkiye.
The Flag Day reception also provided an excellent opportunity to celebrate the recent signing of the “Memorandum of Understanding on Defence Materials” between Türkiye and Finland on June 2nd, 2025, signifying a meaningful advancement in bilateral defence cooperation.
