Deputy Minister Ömer Fatih Sayan visits Finland to discuss 5G and digitalization collaboration

On February 24-25, Turkey's Deputy Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Dr. Ömer Fatih Sayan visited Oulu and Helsinki to explore further collaboration opportunities between Finland and Turkey in topics such as 5G and connectivity, cyber security, digital trust, gender equality and digitalization, as well as research & innovation and startup collaboration.

In Oulu, Nokia Home of Radio hosted Mr. Sayan's delegation for a factory tour and a visit to the 5G test laboratory OTAVA. The program continued the following morning with Nokia CEO Mr. Pekka Lundmark and Mobile Networks President Mr. Tommi Uitto hosting a meeting at the Nokia headquarters in Espoo, followed by technology demos at the Nokia Executive Experience Center.

The hectic schedule also included a meeting with leading Finnish telecommunications and digital services company Elisa, while Business Finland also presented the Digital Trust Finland program for safe, secure, and prosperous societies in an online session. Mr. Timo Harakka, Minister of Transport and Communications and Mr. Ville Skinnari, Minister for Development and Foreign Trade also hosted Deputy Minister Sayan's delegation in separate meetings.

Joining Dr. Sayan's delegation were Mr. Ömer Abdullah Karagözoğlu, President of BTK (Regulator of ICT), Mr. Gökhan Evren, General Manager of Communications, Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, and Mr. Yusuf Kıraç, CTO Türk Telekom. The visit paved the way nicely for the upcoming visit to Turkey of Minister Skinnari's business delegation, as well as the coinciding Joint Economic and Trade Committee (JETCO) planned for early June 2022.
