The Netherlands, which currently holds the EU Presidency, has proposed that one minute's silence be observed in schools throughout the EU Member States in memory of the victims of the Beslan school siege. The silence will be observed on Tuesday, 14 September, at 13.00 Finnish time.

The Finnish Government has expressed its deepest sympathy with those who have suffered as a result of the terrorist strike and with the Russian people as a whole. The Government hopes that schools will observe the silence.
