EU Foreign Affairs Council to discuss Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, Türkiye, and economic security

EU foreign ministers will convene in Brussels on 20 July. Minister for Foreign Affairs Elina Valtonen will represent Finland at the meeting. The ministers will also have an informal exchange of views with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken via videoconference.

In their exchange of views on Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, the ministers will discuss the EU’s security commitments to Ukraine and the Ukrainian Peace Formula and related outreach efforts.

“It is important to continue and increase the EU’s support to Ukraine. I am pleased that the EU is also preparing for longer-term comprehensive support to Ukraine. Finland is committed to supporting Ukraine for as long as necessary,” says Minister Valtonen.

The foreign ministers will also exchange views on the relations between the EU and Türkiye and discuss the foreign policy dimension of economic security.

The EU foreign ministers and US Secretary of State Antony Blinken will exchange views on EU–US relations and Ukraine, among other topics.

“One of the priorities of Finland’s foreign policy is to develop transatlantic relations. The EU and the United States share the same values and democratic practices. The discussion with Secretary of State Blinken is a sign of the close cooperation between the EU and the United States,” says Minister Valtonen.

Current affairs topics on the agenda include China and the outcome of the EU–CELAC Summit.
