Stubb: Emphatic support from Finland for EU enlargement
Štefan Füle, the EU Commissioner for Enlargement and Neighbourhood Policy, visited Finland on 18 October at the invitation of Foreign Minister Alexander Stubb. “We support the work Štefan Füle is doing. In my opinion, he has one of the most difficult and important jobs of all Commissioners.” Enlargement of the European Union was also the topic of the meeting between Minister Stubb and Foreign Minister Vuk Jeremić of Serbia, who visited Finland on 18 October.

Iran and Kosovo top the Foreign Affairs Council’s agenda
The European Union’s Foreign Affairs Council and General Affairs Council convened in Brussels on Monday, 26 July. These were the last Councils of Ministers meetings before the summer break, and the agenda items generating the most discussion and debate on the day were the EU’s Iran sanctions and the Western Balkans. Finland was represented at the Councils by Permanent Representative Jan Store.

EU Foreign Ministers heading for the European Council summit with a wide range of affairs
On Monday, 15 June, the Foreign Ministers of the European Union were up to their ears in work with the Middle East, the Western Balkans as well as the preparations for the approaching EU Council summit. Foreign Minister Stubb and Minister of Migration and European Affairs Astrid Thors believe that the Member States will give their approval for the re-appointment of President of the European Commission Jose Manuel Barroso as early as at the Thursday-Friday summit.

The EU gives Serbia a positive signal ahead of elections
The European Union signed a Stabilization and Association Agreement (SAA) with Serbia on 29 April. “The solution paves the way for Serbia towards membership of the EU and the European family to which the country belongs. In addition, the EU showed that it can take decisions in tight places,” Foreign Minister Alexander Stubb said with satisfaction following the General Affairs and External Relations Council meeting held in Luxembourg.
